Eloy - Inside (Germany, 1973)

This is the first album of the first prog incarnation of this classic German band – the fantastic Eloy. It reminds me of the British Nektar’s “Tab in the ocean”. Main differences are the richer unaccented vocals of the Englishmen and the thicker sound of their production. “Inside” tracks are mainly driven by organ, guitar is competent to add to the atmosphere, even without being specially well played. Bornemann’s squeaky voice with an incredibly strong German accent is not for everyone to like. It doesn’t bother me, though. He usually turns the -v into -w, -th into -ss and also likes to stretch the vowels as in:

we saw the si-hight, we saw the birss of a pla-ha-net...
we're walking ssrough the la-hand...

Some reviews: Progweed, ProgArchives also here, Gnosis, AllMusic.

Land of No Body

We just leave the Earth's ground on the way to see the new star.
We forget the past time released from our imperfection.
Molecular illusion going on to confuse our minds.
Born in a world of conflicts, we don't recognize ourselves.

Then in the dying swarm here we saw the sight.
We saw the birth of a planet.
We saw a world without sorrows,
without the eager, far as of mind as of money.

We're walking through the land
and recognized we're back to the Earth again.

Creatures come from nowhere and find somewhere our place.
We want freedom, we want freedom for the world.
Power to the people and the righteous in the land.
That's why we now in turn fight for them.

We saw our world where love is around.
We saw the people there living in the past.
But they are happy and they're laughing.
They feel like their minds now.
Where they built the sky above.
There's a lot of happiness.
Walls of conflicts going smash.

I found the end of the dream.
It's near, crashing down my mind.
There reality is grey with no hope and faith.
I start a journey to inside waking my first term.
I'm just returning to my dream where I'm coming from.

Inside

sometimes stay alone
dream like a child
of all the seasons
pictures and fantasies
moving on and on in my mind
all the time, all the time

but the dreams are gone
then reality is near
I take your hands, feel your breath
and know that I won't stay alone anymore

I take your hands, feel your breath
and know that I won't stay alone anymore

Future City

time's gone on
as you think about
cities are growing on
until they're crushing you
guess how you feel
once more it's catching your breathing
guess how you feel
guess how you feel
guess how you feel
guess how you feel

the day is dark
when you wake up in the morning
the streets are bare
when death is going round and around

time's gone on
as you think about
cities are growing on
until they're crushing you
guess how you feel
once more it's catching your breathing
guess how you feel
guess how you feel
guess how you feel
guess how you feel

Up And Down

You try to get success directly
the way is far and even hard
once in a while it'll get shorter
sometimes the way is out of reach

up and down, up and down
up and down, up and down
up and down, up and down
up and down, up and down

we could join league, shape our life
but there's one to destroy us
perhaps he makes it ignorant
but there the loud music echoes

up and down, up and down
up and down, up and down
up and down, up and down
up and down, up and down

we oppose these matter of facts
but sometimes we couldn't do against that
in the course of time we succeed in doing
the next time will demonstrate
if our time, if our time come true

nevertheless, nevertheless
we will do more, we will do more about our get on...
